Born 1985 to a father from Tainan and a mother from the Pangcah people and was raised in Tainan. After completing military service, he returned to Makuta’ay, Hualien and learned about the Pangcah culture. Because he barely lived in the tribe, the culture was foreign to him. For this reason, he decided to stay in the tribe to find his lost identity.
In 2011, because of his mother Sumi Dongi’s idea to restore the terrace field that was deserted for twenty years, he used a video camera for the first time to document the process. Starting with no experience in documentaries or video production, he completed his first documentary Wish of the Ocean Rice two years later, which led to his career in filmmaking.
