Profile
Hung Hung (real name YEN Hung-ya) is a well-known talent in literature, performing arts and cinema in Taiwan. He is the artistic and stage director of Dark Eyes Performance Lab, which he founded in 2009, co-author of the Edward YANG's films, A Brighter Summer Day (1991), and director of many plays, and films.
His first film, The Love of Three Oranges (1998), was an invitée to the Venice Film Festival 1999 and won the Prix FIPRESCI at the Chicago Film Festival and the Best Director at the Nantes Festival of the Three Continents the same year. His second cinematic venture, The Human Comedy, which has won the Prix du Public at the Nantes Festival of the Three Continents in 2001 as well as the Golden Dagger Award (Best Film) in the Muscat Film Festival. His third film, A Garden in the Sky, was a digital film full of visual excitements and fantastic imagination. It has won the Best Art Direction Award at the Taipei Film Festival 2002, and was also an invitee to Moscow International Film Festival in 2003. His latest film, The Wall-Passer, a fantastic film with reference to the same title of Marcel Aymé's famous short story is a rare example of the sci-fi film genre in Taiwan’s movie industry.
Hung Hung is also the author of several short and documentary films, such as Poetry in Motion (2003), Bohemians in Taipei: The Life of Theatre (2004), Dance Me to the End of Love (2009).
