Think creatively and write your own story! "Filming Taipei," a screenwriting competition organized by Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs and Taipei Film Commission, is entering its 9th year. The competition will be accepting entries from May 5 until July 5. Simply write a script for a 90-minute drama feature film where the scenery, character or story involves "Taipei City" and stand to win NT$200,000 in prizes plus a chance to have your story produced into real film. Selected candidates may even participate for free in the screenwriting course of "Taipei Film Academy" organized by Taipei Film Commission in the end of the year, where they may learn from the industry's prominent figures!
Since the founding of Taipei City more than one hundred years ago, the city has developed rich culture over the course of history. Advancement of technologies and globalization in recent decades have made the city known throughout the world. Over the years, Taipei has been home to countless people; from dream searchers, tourists, local residents to people working away from home, everyone has a unique story to tell in this wondrous city. Whether the stories are true experience or fantasy, they all have a chance to be produced into a classic film. This is why Taipei Film Commission has been eagerly sourcing "stories of Taipei" for the last 8 years by offering prizes and marketing assistance to the films adapted from the award-winning screenplays. Furthermore, contestants are invited to participate in screenwriting courses during the end-of-year "Taipei Film Academy" event organized by the commission!
“Filming Taipei” Screenplay Competition has built up good reputation throughout the years, with the number of submitted entries reaching new heights. Last year (the 8th year), the event had attracted overseas entries from Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, USA, Canada and France, as well as new creations by past winners, professional screenwriters and new directors. Some foreigners had even submitted their entries in Chinese, which made the event especially competitive. Based on past experience, winners of “Filming Taipei” Screenplay Competition tend to be contacted by directors and studios for licensing arrangement. So far, “Filming Taipei” Screenplay Competition has given birth to several local and world-acclaimed productions including When A Wolf Falls In Love With A Sheep (written & directed by Hou Chi-jan), Partner in Crime (directed by Chang Jung-chi and written by Monica and Shaballe), and Lost Daughter (written & directed by Jacob Chen). Scheduled for screening this year, Take Me to the Moon (starring Jasper Liu and Vivian Sung) is based on the story of the 2014 (6th) Second Prize-winning script Good old days (written by Birdy Fong). Furthermore, the 2015 (7th) Second Prize-winning script Blue Neck Ring (written by Chang Yao-sheng) had recently won the 2016 2nd subsidy for production from the Ministry of Culture.
