Wrap Press Conference for Cheng Wei-hao’s Who Killed Cock Robin - Taipei Film Commission
Directed by Cheng Wei-hao (The Tag-Along) and produced by David Tang (Where the Wind Settles), the filming of crime mystery film Who Killed Cock Robin wrapped after one and a half months of shooting. A wrap feast was held in a Bai Jian Ban restaurant on April 26. Director Cheng Wei-hao attended the press conference with cast members Kaiser Chuang, Hsu Wei-ning, Christopher Lee, and Mason Lee, who talked about their experiences making the film. When asked about the plot of Who Killed Cock Robin, the director and the actors were hesitant to answer, fearing that they would spoil the film. They only revealed that it is about an investigative journalist (play by Kaiser Chuang) and his supervisor (played by Hsu Wei-ning) investigating a traffic accident nine years ago and uncovering a series of mysteries.

Hsu Wei-ning, who worked with director Cheng for the second time in Who Killed Cock Robin, said that she was excited and grateful for the opportunity because she always wanted to work with Christopher Lee and Kaiser Chuang, and this film made two of her wishes come true. Having starred in three mystery films, Hsu stated that each film had different styles and characters, and therefore she was not afraid to be typecast. In Who Killed Cock Robin, her character is darker and more repressed than her previous roles, making her sleepless and sad after work, which made her feel hurt inside.
Hsu Wei-ning worked with director Cheng Wei-hao for the second time in Who Killed Cock Robin as the female lead.
As opposed to being “hurt inside” like Hsu Wei-ning, almost all of the male actors in Who Killed Cock Robin were hurt physically, with Christopher Lee and Mason Lee bleeding from their fingers and Kaiser Chuang injured in a fight scene. Chuang had a swollen mouth and had to be rushed to the emergency room of National Taiwan University Hospital. He joked that he had to film a kissing scene with Hsu Wei-ning two days later and was lucky that he recovered quickly from the injury.

In the film, Christopher Lee plays a calculating chief editor. He described Who Killed Cock Robin as a thriller in which the people are scarier than ghosts. He also revealed that although he has been working a lot, he has plans for a second child. When shooting Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, directed by his father Ang Lee, Mason Lee built up much muscle. In Who Killed Cock Robin, to play a rookie police officer, he complied with the director’s request for “realism” and stopped training, so that he lost some of the muscle mass. However, he was glad because “training was hard.”
Director Cheng Wei-hao’s previous film The Tag-Along was a box office success and the biggest Taiwanese horror film in 10 years. Therefore, four years in the making, Who Killed Cock Robin attracted much attention during filming. Cheng said that Who Killed Cock Robin is a unique film that blends thriller, suspense, mystery, and crime elements and that he was fortunate to have the amazing cast to tell such a complex story. He also revealed that Who Killed Cock Robin will be released in spring 2017. (Article/ Catherine Huang; Photography/ May Wen; Video/ Ho Chun-mu)
