TFC Director Jao began by thanking Steve Wang, Director of Activator Marketing Company, for serving as the host of the special screening. She then paid respect to the full audience at the screening by wishing them health, good fortune, and happiness all year round, on behalf of the new Director of Taipei City’s Department of Cultural Affairs, Pei-ni Beatrice Hsieh. She said humorously that although director Chiu is a spontaneous person, she has a very sensitive mind. Chiu had written lyrics for Faye Wong, and for David Loman 2, she asked Kuo Tsai-chieh to read The Myth of Sisyphus to understand her character.
Kuo Tsai-chieh remembered meeting the audience the previous summer at the special screening of Where the Wind Settles organized by TFC and thanked the audience for their support. She pointed out that there are many new elements in David Loman 2, including “singing comedy,” which was invented by the director, and a character to act as a stand-in for the director, all of which will surprise the audience. Lotus Wang began by calling herself the Taiwanese Hamasaki Ayumi, Beyoncé, Madonna, and Namie Amuro, to the delight of the audience. Lotus Wang, Su Chu, and Lin Mei-hsiu formed a girl band in the new film. Lotus Wang praised David Loman 2 for being better than the first film, as it delves deeper into the relationships between father and daughter, sisters, and the couple played by Kuo Tsai-chieh and Yo Yang.
Director Chiu responded by saying that David Loman 2 is in part a family drama and wished the audience to enjoy the following 101 minutes. In the new film, director Chiu made a joke at her own expense by having Wu Min play the director’s stand-in character. She stated that the best jokes are on herself, which she learned from producer Kevin Chu. She also paid homage to Chu in the film.
The special screening was packed despite the rush home before the Lunar New Year.
