At the press conference, Jay Chou and the host Mickey Huang had humorous talks, filling the room with laughter. Mickey Huang’s words implied that Jay Chou has managed to “work” and “have children” successfully and Chou’s presence and support for the film show that he remains ambitious toward cinema. Jay Chou seized the opportunity and said Secret, the first film he directed seven or eight years ago, became popular in Korea and was in theaters again.
The orientation of 10,000 Miles is romance and adventure; it features Huang Yuan and Megan Lai as leading actor and actress. The story revolves around the man’s promise to the girl that he would run through 10,000 miles within a certain period and the events happening during the process.
10,000 Miles is an international production in terms of financing, crew and shooting locations. To authentically represent the perils involved in polar circle marathon, the crew will go to Asia, Europe, America, Central Asia and Silk Road to film the beautiful scenery of polar region. With his special effects experience in Hollywood, Hung would invite professionals who worked for Hollywood films such as Iron Man to be in charge of the special effects of 10,000 Miles. Given that the film will be shot in Taiwan and the U.S., TFC has officially engaged Utah Film Commission as partner. The partnership not only aims at assisting the shooting of 10,000 Miles but also facilitates more exchanges of resources and subsidies between the two countries.

Since 10,000 Miles attempts to offer an authentic representation of potential perils of ultramarathon, actors went through special physical training by Kevin Lin before the shooting begins. The training was so hard that Megan Lai often felt her body aching and weak, to the extent that it often took 10 minutes for her to step off the bed in the morning. As for Huang Yuan, he vomited during training. Both were impressed by Kevin Lin’s tough training.
Regarding actors’ tough training before shooting, director Simon Hung said the film is related to Taiwan not only for the setting; it also attempts to show Taiwanese people’s persistent spirit. Hung also said, the preparation of 10,000 Miles has taken two years. The crew worked a lot for pre-production. For example, the casting has already taken a half year. With high hopes toward the film, Jay Chou laughed and said, the preparation has taken so long and he has gone from a single guy to a married man. Yet he acknowledged the director’s attentiveness and professionalism in filmmaking.
Asked about the context of collaborating with Jay Chou, director Simon Hung said it had a lot to do with his father who secretly presented the trailer of his son’s unreleased film Battle for Skyark to Jay Chou and others. Chou thus contacted Simon Hung for further collaboration. Knowing that Hung’s film is about running, Chou introduced Kevin Lin to join them. The trio thus began to plan the shooting project.
The shooting of 10,000 Miles will start on May 13 and will cover many sites in the world. The shooting will probably take two months and cost 120 million NTD. The film is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2016.
