The 67th Cannes Film Festival and Market was held from May 14 to May 25. During the event, the Digital Cinema Package of director King Hu's classic martial arts film Dragon Inn was chosen to showcase in this year's "Classic" section. Dragon Inn had played a vital role in history as it unleashed a decade of martial arts productions when it premiered in Taiwan in 1967. Approaching the age of 80, lead actor Shih Chun walked onto the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival and met his audience once again in the afternoon of May 16.

The Digital Cinema Package of Dragon Inn premiered at Buñuel Theatre; for nearly 2 hours, the audience was once brought back into the fascinating world of eastern martial arts. At the end of the film, Shih Chun and Chinese Taipei Film Archive Curator Lin Wen-chi appeared on stage to receive the audience's applause followed by a Q&A session. Shih Chun thanked the organizer's invitation that gave him the privilege to relive director King Hu's masterpiece during the world-class film festival.

Cannes Film Festival Consultant Pierre Rissient also made the special appearance to explain the importance of Taiwanese films. He has been very active in recommending Taiwanese films to the French audience, and was the biggest contributor to the nomination of King Hu's 1971 title - A Touch of Zen at Cannes Film Festival. He also mentioned that pioneer directors in the 1960s and 1970s such as Lee Hsing, Li Han-hsiang, and Sung Tsun-shou are the greatest treasure to Taiwan's film industry, and hopes to see more classic titles restored and presented to the French audience as Dragon Inn had done.

Apart from Dragon Inn, there were 23 other Taiwanese production companies that exhibited their work during the festival; most of which were highly anticipated titles scheduled to showcase in the second half of 2014. As for action blockbuster - Black & White2: The Dawn of Justice, director Tsai Yueh-hsun joined producer Yu Hsiao-hui and actor Mark Chao to promote the film personally at Cannes, and appeared on the red carpet in the afternoon of the 16th during the premiere of Dragon Inn. They later joined film talents from around the world in the Taiwan Cinema Party held in the evening of the 17th. (Article/Yuyin Liu; translation/Master Translation Service Co., Ltd)
