When receiving her award, Zhang Ziyi looked calmer than when she had gained her Golden Horse Award. Clothed in a shiny red fishtail dress, she thanked the judges and showed her appreciation again to director Wong Kar-wai for giving her the role, as also to Tony Leung for allowing her to constantly progress when acting. “It took over three years to film The Grandmaster. My greatest gain is to understand ' being willing'. All of the people involved in filmmaking including actors and staff devote their entire heart and time because of their zest for movies. For me, this is a rather warm winter. I have harvested both happiness and trophies," said Zhang Ziyi.
When making his acceptance speech, the Best Actor winner Lee Kang-sheng ridiculed himself by saying, "Another huge upset!" Later he said slowly with humor, "Receiving this award makes me start to feel like having a meteoric rise." He also re-expressed his gratitude for the support from the jury and the public.
Tsai Ming-liang, the director of Stray Dogs, went onto the stage to receive the Best Sound Effects award on behalf of Tu Du-chih and Kuo Li-chi.
In addition to the Best Actor award, Stray Dogs and The Grandmaster were each honored with two major technology awards - the Best Sound Effects award (Tu Du-chih and Kuo Li-chi) and the Best Photography award (Philippe Le Sourd). The Best Editing award was taken by the Australian film Ruin (Simon Price, Sally Blenheim, and Luca Cappelli). The Indian Film The Lunchbox, which obtained six nominations at this annual Asia Pacific Film Festival, triumphed with the Best Screenplay award (Ritesh Batra) and the Best Supporting Actor award (Nawazuddin Siddiqui).
