Kuo Shu-yau has gathered much attention as a rising young talent in Taiwan, after appearing in several popular TV dramas and films. Kuo's first performance as the lead actress in Step Back to Glory (2013) not only won her Best New Performer at the 50th Golden Horse Awards, but also established her inspirational image among the young audience. Kuo's fame soared after the airing of HBO series - The Psychic (2017), which made her a popular figure in local as well as overseas markets. This is her first role as the celebrity ambassador of a micro film contest, for which she felt privileged and obliged to use her influence to inspire creations among young people.
Kuo Shu-yau is actively involved in charity events. Having succeeded award-winning performers Li Kang-sheng and Yang Kuei-mei as the ambassador for "MOD Micro & Short Film Contest" in 2017, she said: "I, too, like to point camera on whatever interesting things I see, but I am too shy to show them to others. As an ambassador of this event, I encourage everyone to open up and show your creations, because you will be surprised by how much you can gain and grow from it." However, when asked about being a director, Kuo Shu-yau said with modesty: "Right now I am trying to improve my career as an actress, and bring better performances to the audience. I am open to other tasks if given the chance in the future."
Kuo Shu-yau is currently working on a grand costume drama in China, but had taken time out of her busy schedule to shoot the promotion video for "MOD Micro & Short Film Contest." After finishing up her night scenes in China, she got on the plane and returned to Taiwan immediately for dress rehearsal, and managed to show up on the day of the shoot smiling without sign of fatigue. Not only did she arrive early for rehearsal, she was confident enough to say: "I have memorized my lines, there is no need for prompt!" The production crew was truly impressed by her professionalism and friendliness.
In the promotional video, Kuo Shu-yau dressed up in white and posed as a director, holding a vintage 8mm camera and capturing her new discoveries in every step she took in a nostalgic coffee shop. The short video features the tagline - "Start rolling and play your heart out!" as an encouragement to young people to gather inspirations from daily life and turn them into interesting images through imagination and action.
