The Cutting-edge Team Creates Spectacular Opening and Closing Ceremonies - Taipei Film Commission
For You. For Youth
Taipei 2017 Universiade is expected to attract around 10,000 athletes from more than 120 countries, making it the biggest international multi-sport event Taiwan has ever hosted. It will not only be a stage upon which international athletes can achieve their dreams, but also a platform where Taiwan’s youth can show their creative power and vitality to the world.
The Opening Ceremony will officially begin at 7 pm on August 19th at Taipei Stadium, lasting for about three hours (including protocols and cultural programs.) In contrast to the Opening Ceremony, during the Closing Ceremony the audience will on their feet and dance; be ready to sway with the rise and fall of electronic beats from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Before both ceremonies, there will be a Prologue Program for one hour.
The performances will center on the Taipei Universiade slogan “For You. For Youth” and will also reflect the FISU slogan “Today’s stars, tomorrow’s leaders.” All the tickets, including the Ceremonies and Competitions, are now available for purchase!

Following the theme of Taiwan’s past, present and future, the cultural programs will be separated into three distinct chapters: Vibrant Island, Hybrid Taipei, and Global Tribe. The program will showcase Taiwan’s diverse local cultures, as well as its unique spirit to create an unbreakable bond with the audience. The performance attempts to overcome the technical limitations of the Taipei Stadium. Apart from using a 1200 square meter LED floor to create a stunning 3D effect, there will also be a high-tech Cauldron for the sacred flame as well as a mesmerizing fireworks display designed to recreate Taiwan’s landscape.
Tremendous Casting- A Fusion of Art and Popular Culture
The performances bring together nearly a thousand students studying different artistic disciplines (like dance and stage performance) to create a unique group filled with creative energy. Notable members include: Chien Peiju Pott, the former head of the Martha Graham Dance Company; Chang Yichun, the first Taiwanese dancer in Cirque du Soleil; as well as the internationally renowned violinist Tseng Yuchien. Musical talents Wang Leehom, sultry songstress A-Lin, along with Taiwanese Aboriginal musicians－the hip hop group Boxing, Yagu Tanga, Sangpuy Katatepan Mavaliyw, Chu-Yin Culture and Arts Troupe, last but not least, Taiwu Ancient Ballads Troupe. The music resonating with the world welcomes all contestants to the Games.
